These accounts will make it easier and more transparent to give money to the beneficiaries.
The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, was also there and played an important role in starting the “Benazir Social Protection Account.” Many important people attended the event, including Ms. Marriyum Aurangzeb, the Federal Minister of Information and Broadcasting, diplomats, and many people who receive support from the program.
New Payment System for BISP through Benazir Social Protection Account
The government of Pakistan has introduced the “Benazir Social Protection Accounts” for the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP). This is a big achievement! The Prime Minister, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, was there too.
With this new system, women can pick their favorite bank to get direct payments. This way, they can withdraw money whenever they need it, giving them more control over their money.
To make it work well, four banks were chosen through a fair process: National Bank, Bank Alfalah, JS Bank Limited, and United Bank Limited. These banks will help set up the “Benazir Social Protection Account” system.
The main goal of this initiative is to empower women and give them more financial freedom. By having direct access to their funds, the government wants to improve their lives and make the process of getting financial help easier and more transparent.

BISP Budget Increase: More Help for Families
Ms. Shazia Marri was happy that the Prime Minister came to the event and showed interest in the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP). She praised the late Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and former President Asif Ali Zardari for starting this program in 2008. BISP helps deserving women and their families with financial support. It has done many good things in the last 15 years and changed the lives of many families in Pakistan.
Ms. Marri said that in the last year, the BISP budget got bigger. It went from Rs. 235 billion to Rs. 404.2 billion, which is a 72% increase! This means more families—now 9 million in total—will get help from BISP. The program is committed to protecting the most vulnerable people in society. More families, 9 million now, are eligible for support from BISP, which is higher than before.
During the floods in 2022, BISP gave Rs. 70 billion to 2.8 million families who were affected. That was a big help during a difficult time. The program uses a special list called the National Socio-economic Registry (NSER) to make sure that the right families get help. They even re-surveyed 2.3 million households in the last four months to keep the list updated.
BISP has also taken a great step forward in helping the transgender community for the first time. And they made it easier for people with disabilities to get support by lowering the score needed for help.
To celebrate its 15-year journey, a book called “15 Years of Benazir Income Support Programme” was launched at the event. The BISP is doing important work, helping women, and families, and making Pakistan a better place.
