Ahsas Scholarship Program 2023 for Undergraduate Students

Ahsas Scholarship – In a historic move, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Imran Khan, and Chairman of PTI announced the Ahsas Scholarship Program, which is a need-based scholarship. This program aims to support poor students from middle-class families who cannot afford educational expenses, including hostel fees. Over a period of four years, it is estimated that more than 200,000 students will benefit from this scholarship program.

Higher education is seen as a crucial pathway to overcome poverty in Pakistan, especially after completing intermediate education. However, only 0.4% of middle-class families’ children are able to pursue higher education, which is much lower than the national average of 10%. The main objective of the Ahsas Scholarship Program is to address this inequality in educational opportunities.

In the past 14 years, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has provided a total of 30,000 undergraduate scholarships. Currently, about 50,000 students from low-income families receive scholarships each year across all four provinces of Pakistan (AJK, Gilgit-Baltistan, Sindh, and Punjab). To be eligible for the Ahsas Scholarship Program, a student’s household annual income must be less than Rs 45,000. The program will benefit 200,000 students over the course of four years, covering their full tuition fees and providing a monthly stipend of Rs 4,000 ($50).

The program has expanded to include public universities in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, with a cost of Rs. 24 billion. On March 2nd, the Prime Minister will distribute the first phase of the allocated funds to deserving students from all over Pakistan.

The aim of the program is to create equal educational opportunities and provide access to higher education for all youth. With a population of over 220 million, the Government of Pakistan prioritizes such programs to ensure deserving students are supported and equal rights are promoted.

Under the Ahsas Scholarship Program, 50% of the scholarships will be awarded to women. Each year, 50,000 scholarships will be given, totaling 200,000 scholarships over four years. This program has proven to be a great achievement for students from less privileged backgrounds, offering them the opportunity to pursue their education with financial support.
